"You wouldn't believe it Emmy! This new house sucks! First Aunt Victoria takes a week to decide that letting Azalea stay with us was a good idea, THEN, two days alter she says the tiny house needs to be sold and that we need a bigger one! But my room, Azalea's room, while there is a lot of rooms, they are all TINY. Think bathroom or closet sized!" Lyla ranted.
Emmy gasped from the other end of the phone. "It must suck! And now we are nearly half an hour away from each other, instead of two blocks apart! But I guess living nearer to Danny makes you happy." Lyla smiled a tiny bit. "Yeah, it is nice having him closer, but I haven't even seen him since that night a couple weeks ago. I've got to go Emmy, someone is here." Lyla replied and hung up.
"Danny! Hi!" Lyla said in the best relaxed tone she could manage.
"Hi Lyla! I have some presents for Azalea, but how are you?" He asks her delightfully.
"I'm good. Come chat for a bit!" She says and invites him onto the bed.
"Well, your Aunt certainly got the purple paint up quickly, she REALLY loves that color. Nice, room..." He says.
He glances around at the tight space of bed pressed against bookshelf that Lyla was now calling 'her room.'
"So, how is everything?" Danny asks.
Lyla groans and throws her head back. "AWFUL. Azalea has completely flip flopped my life! I had to MOVE because of her, and she doesn't seem to grasp that Aunt Victoria and I are only keeping her for a little bit! We still aren't sure if she is going to stay permanently or not!"
Danny was silent for a second before replying carefully, "I'll help you with this later, but for now, I want to give Azalea her present." Lyla nodded and the two got up.
"Hi Mrs. Reins! I have something for Azalea." Danny greeted. "Hello Danny! It is good to see you! I'll call Azalea out in just a minute, but first.
Have you seen my glasses? I can't find them anywhere!" Mrs. Reins asked and glanced frantically around the room.
"These glasses?" Lyla asked and scooped them up off the floor. Mrs. Reins took them quickly.
''Thank you Lyla!"
"Anytime Aunt Victoria....." Lyla replied. "Azalea!" Mrs. Reins called out a few seconds later.
Azalea came out of her also tiny room. Danny stepped up to her. "Hi Azalea! I'm a friend of Lyla's, I got you this present!"
Danny handed the red bag over to the little girl. "Open it." He said excitedly.
Azalea unzipped it and pulled out four cute stuffed teddy bears.
"THANK YOU!" Azalea said and leaped forward to give Danny a hug.
"That was very nice of you Danny, how would you like to stay for dinner?" Mrs. Reins asked.
"I'd like that!" He answered.
"Can I invite Willow?!" Azalea asked excitedly. Mrs. Reins saw the fear struck on Lyla's face and knew that was a bad idea.
"Not this time, we won't have enough room at the table." Mrs. Reins said to make the girl feel better.
"That's okay,...
I'll invite her next time!" She said.
She took her toys to her bedroom to play.
After a yummy meal and desert cooked by Mrs. Reins, Danny and Lyla headed back upstairs.
They sat and chatted before Lyla grew bored. Danny hopped up, he knew exactly what she needed!
He got the book of quotes out and opened it. Lyla leaned over to see which quote he was going to read.
"None will improve your lot, if you yourselves do not." Danny read out loud perfectly.
